Seems to be a known issue. Pre 3.0 they were known as SMS , and therefore SMS themes, post 3.0 it's now called Messages and most of the SMS themes have not been updated to take account of this which is why they don't work.
Either the authors need to update them or, if you're feeling adventurous you could modify them yourself, have a read here on how to do it.
