Laptop £300 to £400

I need to buy a laptop for my mum but I only want to spend £300 to £400, just for using on the internet and Ms office.

I usually buy the higher end Dell XPS stuff for myself, but how are the cheaper Dell laptops in this price bracket? Or should I just get a completly different make and model?

Inspiron/Vostro are good machines although both the ones in our house are a year and half old now so not sure of any major changes to the range in that time.
