How can I create a text field in flash that looks at an external text file or html file for the content? so make a nice groovy flash site, however content can be updated by simply using a text editor? so a normal user can update the website content.

That is possible and easy if you know how, can't really describe how to do it without spending ages on it. Take a look here http://www.flashkit.com and look under the tutorials and examples there should be loads of decent step by step guides on there.
