Cabling Guidelines / Documentation
Has anyone got any guidelines or Documentation for how to run network cables, and physically cable servers?
I'm getting really pissed off with peoples cabling now, but I need to document it on how it should be done - just wondering if anyone had anything before I reinvent the wheel though.
Cheers
David

David, are you running these along a wall or the likes or is it just short distance? (you can use ducting for longer runs).
Use to cable telecoms gear, rule of thumb was not to mix cable types, especially power with any other type (none armoured cables especially).
If over distance then I personally would run ducting along the bottom of the wall (protect any ethernet cable from crush damage), but shorter distances is better and keep away from other electrical equipment if possible (unarmoured cables again mainly to stop EM interference).

its good practice to develop a colouring convention and document it
i.e. yellow for servers
grey for workstations
black for droplinks
and red for internet/untrusted links
keep cables only as long as they need to be (making sure they are under no strain)
no sharp turns -- all types of cable will have a documented bend radius limit
well cabled comms rooms are an art form in themselves

check out cat 5/6 cabling and telecom cabling on google and if you have to cross one over mains it should be at a angle of 90 degree,s structured wiring can look a mess and still work fine keep digital and analogue in seperate cable

Guidelines for cabling within cabinets, IE correct length power cables, bend radius's, KVM cables, PDU, Spacing, Labeling etc..
Fed up of some ****ers ruining it all...
