Why does my PC keep freezing up?
At least a few times a day (twice already today!) my PC just freezes...nothing will work to get it going apart from shutting off the power - it then comes back fine (after its 5 min boot up time....huge PITA)
As it doesnt seem to be linked to any obvious thing i am doing how on earth to i track down the reason??? Any ideas?
Only thing i have changes lately is that i am currently in an office where i plug into their LAN - cant see that would cause it though?

assume its Windows then I think it comes with the territory – and could be a multitude of things tbh
Maybe its timing out trying to connect to a resource on the network
Dodgy antivirus program --
I’m sure the Mac evangelists will be along to gloat soon

is it only since you are plugged into their lan?
Check the network adaptor properties and turn off enable computer to power of this device or something like that see if that helps

Just downloaded a temp check thingy and it says the cpu is 68...too hot? (It's a lap top so i'm not sure what i can do if it is...put it on a stand for more air to get round it?)

It's a bloody nuisance when this happens. The last time I scanned all the files with each of the several bug fixing programmes I have including Malware and Spybot. Each found problems which they fixed. As did Norton which is my default anti-virus programme. I think there is one now accessed via microsoft.com.
I had something that checked the registry which identified loads of problems but I was too mean to buy the full version.
Doing above eventually sorted things but the scanning programmes can take an hour so. I keep about 250,000 files on the PC so quite a lot to get through.
