What is the file size, sometimes the file system may keep the file name, but the file size is zero (ie empty)? Also recovered - were they corrupted? If yes maybe there is a problem with the file itself even if apparently it appears to now be OK. Some file types have information in the first part of the file (jpg's and avi's) if tis part cannot be read then you might have problems opening the file.

All of the file types seem to be the correct sizes, they all state .jpg or mp4 etcetc, just when i try to play a video or view an image it wont let me.

The software i used was some freeware i found on Free Software Downloads and Reviews - Download.com could this be the problem?

No sorry, just interested.
Try to open them with another image viewing program you wouldn't usually use for them. Right click, then open with and see if thats any different.

have you tried Irfanview ?

IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide

Seems to open everything I throw at it.....if not I guess they must be corrupted.
