Login Scripts In NT/W2K
#1
Used to Novell login scripts...
Are there simillar things in NT/W2K?
Technet only seems to want to talk about NT connecting with Novell login scripts
Going to bin Novell server soon (sob ) & wondering how to go about the login script thingy.
IE if I have to go and manually map drives to different directories/shares every time a new user logs in - or can I automate it? Aware of reconnect at logon but different users @ different PCs have different rights etc etc.
Probably not known as login script anymore
Is it .bat's or simillar?

You can place a .bat or .cmd in the NetLogon share of your Domain Controllers. In User Manager for Domains (on NT) you can type in the name of the script to run. If you have an NT PDC and BDC, you need to put the batch file in both so clients authenticating on the BDC still get the script run.
Out of the box, the scripts are pretty basic ie Net use \\servername\share to map a drive. We set the workstation time from an atomic clock receiver in our scripts.
If you want to do fancy things, then KixStart is a freebie download.

Use VBScript...
There is no limitation to what you can do - as long as you can do VB..
There are lots of sites out there with scripts you can use/amend to you own environment for logons..
If all your clients are W2K then you'll be OK as they;ll have the scripting host builtin..
If you have NT or Win9x clients its a slightly different story...
