I know theres many of you that stream to your xbox using media centre to watch video files so you must get sound but do you watch things like bbc iplayer? I read that you can get the internet but you won't get any sound is this the case fullstop or do you need software?

What you've read is for the most part is as i understand it, correct. The problem is apparently the DRM setup used (effectively the copy protection) and how it's dealt with at the local / client end aswell as the way that the xbox deals with flash content.

The way i get around it probably isn't a solution for you to consider but there are a few other ways to achieve what you want

I don't know for certain since i don't use microsoft platforms anymore but a google search turned up an application called tVersity that seems like it may do what you need .... one of the other guys on here may know more about it or be able to suggest an alternative though

TVersity - About

oh and keep an eye on the iplayer site in general terms as a separate thing anyway since they're reportedly working on solutions for the consoles anyway - there's already a ps3 proof of concept solution that's due and the wii apparently works so the xbox is the last one to go lol!

yes i read its on the wii but its youtube quality so not very good at all. also have to pay for the internet channel atm albeit only 3.50. Very strange why MS hasnt got its own IE on its own console.

A lot of things to do with microsoft is very strange

you could always run linux on your xbox instead .... could bypass the iplayer stuff the same way i do then

YouTube - xbox 360 running Ubuntu on Harddisk

Not got or played with a 360 so don't have a clue how it works ..... if it doesn't have a browser, how do you do something like punt in an i.p. address to pick up a video stream that doesn't have protection?

Thinking that perhaps the way around it is similar to that tVersity setup i.e. offering a transcoded stream that would to all intense and purposes appear to be a "microsoft" stream
