Question are my temps ok?

Hi everyone

i have just built my new system, Q8200, 4gb ram, 4830 gpu, 1 case fan + psu.

Asus NB Probe is saying cpu 35C and motherboard 38C. my mate reckons that this is mega hot! after 30mins of Call of Duty, I close it down and CPU reads about 39C. I was just wondering if these sound about right to you?

i have a cone like thing which allows the cpu fan to draw air from the outside, also, under that there is a large square whole(mesh) about inline with the graphics card, should i try and blank this off so that there is more air flow? also, i am going to unscrew the cone a little bit so it is closer to the HSF.

Those temps are fine. Are you running stock cooler?

Hot would be stock setting and over 50 degree's, and topping over 70.

It's true they can run cooler than that, but it's certainly nothing to worry about.

cheers for that.

ye, stock intel cooler. also the "motherboard" temp is around 37. if i added a front fan, that would that make more air pass over the MB, because, at the moment, some air is being sucked in from the side, which doesnt even get chance to pass over the MB!

Scott.

Wish I was getting those temps. Currently running a shuttle with QX extreme Quad core CPU and 4GB RAM and the temps are around 46-48 degrees CPU Temp and 40 degrees board temp. Luckily I don't play games or it could go higher

A Q8xxx is good for 71C degrees (case temp) which is absolute max core temp of 76C degrees.

Those temps your getting are spot on: Even if they were high, the CPU will trigger its thermal management to slow it down or halt the system before any damage is done.

Tell your mate to get clued up....Here's some info: Core 2 Quad and Duo Temperature Guide

my old clocked xp2500 is sitting now at 48 degrees while browsing scoobynet

the "cooling solution" i use is running at 50% fan speed, and will drop it around 10-12 degrees when its running full speed, only i don't tend to turn the fan right up as its a bit nosier then your average

this is what i am using to help cool my cpu lol

My crappy Dell Dimension is o/c from 1.8 to 2.2gig and it runs at about 25c ish during normal operation. If I load the CPU up then it runs upto 35c ish.

Now, my laptop... thats hit 85c before now!

Looking at my remote desktop; my e6400 at home running in quiet mode at 28C (Vcore 0.96v).

I've had it hitting 60C when OC'ing with fans on max whilst playing games (an Intel cooler and HTPC case does have its limits ).
