Phillips CDRW 800 Series and 700MB CD-R Discs
#1
Hi all
When trying to use 700MB CD-R Discs with my Phillips CDRW 800 Series CD Writer, it seems like it cannot recognise them. It just starts clicking while running the Direct CD program for a few minutes and then goes silent. Sometimes it will recognise them on very rare occasions if I insert the blank 700MB CD-R directly after the PC boots up. It has no trouble with 650MB CD-R discs though and I have used 1 - 4x 650MB CD-RW discs in it too with no problems.
I am using Adaptec Direct CD and Easy CD Creator 4 in Windows 98 with a PIII 500MHz PC. I have checked the Adaptec website and I seem to have the most up to date versions of their software.
I have inquired about this problem with a few people and they say they have never heard of it before. Someone must have came across it.
Any help appreciated

Putting more than 650mb on a CDR is called 'overburning'.
Some CD recorders can't handle this, same for the software.
But as the drive goes nuts just putting the disc in, I reckon
it's the software (DirectCD) or the media itself.
I've got the CDRW400, no problem.

Make sure you have the latest firmware for your device. Try the Philips homepage or Here

Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively.
Read carrefully the installation notes of your firmware before you upgrade.
