Question

I have some questions for a Microsoft “Expert”.

We have managed to mix up a lot of our Microsoft Windows (95, 98, ME, NT and 2K) CD’s and certificates and lost track of which PC’s they belong to. Nothing illegal going on, we have a certificate for each installation I just need to tie everything up again.

a) Is the Serial Number and/or Product Key information held within a file on the CD, and how can you view this information

b) Is there a way to find the manufacturer of a PC or the OEM supplier from the product Serial Number

c) Is there a program freely available that can peer into the registry and retrieve the Serial Number and Product key, if not can someone write a quick one for me (I know the exact location of the required info in the registry)

Please reply directly to my E-Mail address if you can help me.

Stuart

a) No
b) Don't think so
c) There is a program called Tweaking Toolbox for Windows which I am told allows you to pull out the key from your current installation.
