Got but can't get into it either. The map is so big you have to use a jeep but being in a car makes you a sitting duck...

Got it, finished it, and managed to get the hang of it....
I do understand the frustration though. You blow up all the merc bases / checkpoints on the way to a target and they're all there again on the way back.
I was actually IN a base when they all reappeared one time. The timing was lousy as I decided to use the base as cover for a convoy I needed to blow up. Right as the convoy appeared all these mercs suddenly filled the base again.
I actually survived that, but God knows how!
It takes some getting into, but really it is worth it. If only for the ability to blow the smeg out of the checkpoints and see some REALLY great explosions
You don't have to drive everywhere btw, you can use the bus stations to get across the map if you like, but you do get rewarded for exploring with diamonds and safe houses (the latter less important for the pc owners)
There are some stunning locations on the map, and the first sunset you see through the trees is amazing. (if you're lucky not to be in the middle of firefight at the time!)

they said because its an open world, has that always been the case for other open world games?
Have to admit im not liking it as much as the first one though its better without the alien mutation. Scenary however is stunning.

I couldn't get into it either, but seeing as retailers dropped the price, finding it hard to trade it for anything new or sell it.
I got GOW2 and i'm well into that, superb game.

Really enjoyed far cry 1 on the pc.
Got far cry 2 and just cant seem to get into it.
Put a few hours into the game also, map feels to big.
Seem to spend hours driving around doing very similar missions.
unless im doing something wrong.
The sunset and fire graphics are good though.

got it and eventually got into it. Use the bus routes to quickly get around the map and when in a jeep keep a finger poised over the rear gun position button, so when you do get attacked you cvan take them out pretty easy
Quite a good game, with some awesome physics effects

I tried that and drove straight off a cliff!!! That was a Kodak moment if there ever was one
I liked the game for the unscripted moments in it. I think if you go into it trying to play the missions you soon get fed up. I ignored them and went around looking for fun things to do / find... like inadvertently driving off a cliff Or the first time I found a mortar jeep and didn't know.... shot the car in front which promptly somersaulted onto my head.
Molotovs into the grass near some fuel drums that happen to be next to a machine gun post and ammo dump? That's priceless You get the screams and the bodies. HUGE explosions, bullets whizzing in all directions and when it's all calmed down you wander through and take what's left.
