Default PSP - Any good?

The mrs is looking for something to buy me for xmas. Are these handheld consoles any good? I like the idea of being able to watch movies on it and i'm sure it would come in handy when 'her in doors' is watching her programs on the tv (as she is doing now funnily enough! )

They're great - Especially when you get a good set of headphones.
Loads of games and UMDs available now.

Had mine since the day they were launched. They're Brilliant on long haul flights. When we went to the states earlier this year watched 2 films and a couple of Hrs playing GTA and we were there - Quality..

And if you get a large enough memory card, you can fit loads of movies onto it without paying the price for UMD's

I use mine when I work away there brilliant I hacked my firmware so I put downloaded psp games on memory card so I don't have to buy games and carry them around for something I use once in a while.

But brilliant for what they do

Thinking of getting one for my daughter for xmas, do you have to get a memory card as well or is there any built in memory in the PSP. ?

I have a DS with about 500+ games. great battery life and great games.

We also have a PSP 2003 with loco roco and lego batman - my g/f played lego batman until she got 100% - awesome graphics and sound - the UMD has scope for lots of game media.

Like Tyrell says, "...the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long..." - much better machine than the DS, but the battery is only good for watching a long film.

if you want value for money - DS + R4 chip + ..:: DS-ROM-NEWS | LATEST ::.. (NDS ROMS - www.ROM-NEWS.net)

CD

Didn't realise you could get on the net with a PSP. How out of touch am I! So are there certain PSP supported sites or can you go on or can you access any site?

I've used my PSP to browse SNet before and ebay.

I wanted to hack my PSP but it seemed quite complicated and if you **** it up your screwed.

My daughter has a DS and its got a TT card. Lots of games on that but it can freeze now and again when it tries to load.

I bought one sept 1st 2005 (launch day) and hacked it the same day. I have about 40 games and I love it (even though I use it rarely) but the battery life is duff!!!!

PSP`s are great Ive had mine years - it was one of the original 1.5 versions from japan now any PSP can be firmware flashed with the PB

the homebrew scene alone is worth buying one - playing old classics golden axe / streetfighter 2 turbo and ps1 games is just then you have movies actual psp games and the ability to surf the net which is ok but needs a update in flashplayer IMO

theres also homebrew aps that let you turn your TV over using the PSP

I must have 5 battreys for plane trips etc

A great bit of kit

Got mine for free with a phone deal around 3 years ago.

It has custom firmware, so I can play all the games of the memory card for faster loading/ longer battery life and of course, not having to cart tonnes of games about. There is so much home brew applications for the PSP, as mentioned: the emulators, you can play any SNES/NES/Gameboy/Megadrive game. An I believe now the N64 emulator has finally been perfected.
Its pretty impressive.

I'd say get one, if you are going to hack it, get a DS if you are not.

I'm sure there are people that do it for cash, seems a bit of a rip off if you can do it yourself.

Look at the link posted above, thats where I got all my info from.
Let me know if you need any help, I've flashed over 20 PSPs for people I know.

Depends on what you're doing, like a laptop.
I get between an hour and a half to four hours.

I got a datel pandora battery switcher which is just a unit you put your psp battery into and it turns it into one and you can revert it.it took me two days to crack only one method of magic stick worked( don't know why they just never booted up at start up) if you have a problem with other methods I can upload the files I used.

last time I looked the 3000s hadn't been broken yet so buying one in a mainstream shop might not be the best idea if you want to patch it to cfw.

not all batteries can be set to pandora, if the serial number can't be programmed, it won't happen.

I have an (almost foolproof) battery and stick kit I'd *consider* lending to upstanding community members if anyone wants to have a bash with a phat or slim.

100% agree. We bought 2 while in the states before they came out over here. Used them on the way back and again for the flights back out there the following year.

Ideal for passing time, but no replacement for watching TV.
