UBB insists on puttng the http:// infront.
What you need is an asp page so you link to
(url=myhomepage.com/email.asp?eM=mike@toyefamily.com&LinkText=Fosters) email Fosters(/url)
and in the page email.asp

response.write "<p><a href=""mailto:" & location.href=request.querystring("eM") & "">" & "<font face=""Tahoma"" size=""2"" color=""#0000ff""><b>Click here to email " & request.querystring("LinkText") & "</b></font></a></p>"
