Does anybody know if its possible to plug your ipod into a new computer without it clearing your libary? I am getting a new pc but when i put itunes onto the new pc, the first time i connect the ipod it will clear all the music from the ipod? And i dont want to have to add all those cds again onto the new pc.

You can get various programs that will manage the iPod without iTunes, so you could copy the files back, wipe it, and then re-import into iTunes.

...And as if by magic, the shopkeeper appeared...
Apple/iTunes prevents you from copying music from your iPod to your computer, it's their attempt at copy protection, as otherwise you could plug in someone else's iPod and copy all their music onto your computer.
When you install iTunes and plug the iPod in for the first time to the new computer, it should ask you if you wish to automatically sync your music or manually manage it. You want to select the option to manually manage the music. This will stop iTunes from syncing the blank library to your iPod, which would remove all it's contents. I think early versions of iTunes did not have this option, and would simply auto sync, thus you lose your music, which was not a pleasant experience, but as mentioned, it does ask these days.
The link Steve provided is worth a read as it details what software is out there to copy music from the iPod to your computer, which is exactly what you need to do. If you were using a Mac then I'd suggest using PodWorks, which is what I have used for many years without issue.

Yes, you will need to copy the music from the iPod onto the new Computer, but it's not as if you'll need to re-rip the cd's the music came from, it's just getting an application that will allow you to copy the music from the iPod onto the Machine, then telling iTunes where the music on the computer is.
