A new laptop - Dell or Sony
Chaps
Always been a Dell man through both work and home, and decided rather than replace my current 2 year old home PC (Dell) I'd get a laptop and have both.
But, one of the things I've always liked about Dell is that if you have a problem, you can easily look for updates and upgrades from your Service Tag, or if you need to rebuild it, everything is in one easy place. And they seem to last.
But I've seen a few Sony's around that look great and the 16.4" screen is not only a good size but I like that the keyboard is spread out.
So, I'm looking at something like Dell Studio 17 (brand new) for about £700, or a refurbished product from Dell with full warranty (cancelled orders etc) about £550, or a Sony FW 21L, for about £670 (online price), and would be grateful for those who use them to provide a comparison and their thoughts and comments.
I'm fearful that just because I know Dell I'll never look at alternatives, and would like the masses thoughts on this dilemma?
So Sony, for example, have one single place for updates to the BIOS etc?
Cheers

I've always found Sony's website sucked, their own software they layer on sucks, driver support sucks and when I needed a new HDD in one of mine under warranty, point blank refused to send the drive and unit had to be shipped to Holland for more than 4 weeks.
They look seriously cool with good spec but if it was my money out of my pocket, Dell, Tosh or HP.

Dell vs Sony, I'd go with Dell every time. Sony after sales / support is terrible, and the machines tend to be over priced for the specification (i.e. you pay more for the name).
