Virtual Machine Question

Virtual Machine Question
I am running a couple of virtual machines within my 64 bit install. One of the virtual machines (Sun Virtualbox) is running an XP SP3 32 bit OS.
Every time I try to access a particular device via the virtual machine, which is hanging off a usb port, the real 64 bit OS outside the virtual machine intercepts the request. In other words it is not possible to access the the usb device because of the above.
Is there any way round this please?
Many thanks

Not sure, have you installed the guest extensions on the xp virtual machine, and are you using V2? I've had USB devices working but the host was 32bit Vista.

I've had loads of problems using USB devices in Virtual Machines (tried VirtualBox, VMWare and Virtual PC-which didn't support USB at all) all XP32. My USB to dual RS232 adaptors only report one RS232 port (when it works at all) and my GPRS module just does not work Not got one running at the moment but isn't there a menu item to pass the device to the virtual PC? Then it should auto-detect as per the host.

Kernel,
I share your pain! I have tried Chunk D's suggestion of installing the guest extensions but no joy. The native OS always intercepts the request before the VM can get to it.
Might have to go a different route and create a dual boot/multi OS machine; however running 64 bit architecture, I am not certain whether this will become a complete pain in the arsenal or not.
Anyone got experiences to share re installing multi OS's onto 64 bit architecture? First issue for me will be the drivers; my mobo only has 64 bit drivers available, so that is bound to be an absolute PITA.
Throw it all away and start again, perhaps? I thought computing was supposed to be getting easier...
