Netgear/WPA-PK cant see Acer laptop
My Dad has Sky broadband, Netgear DG834GT router and a desktop running XP connecting wireless using a Netgear WG111T adapter. The router is I believe modified for Sky and pre-set to WPA-PK with the key printed on the router.
Now he wants a laptop. So I took my Acer laptop running Vista round for him to try, but I cant access his network. My laptop can see his router but, when I go into the Router settings the MAC address is not showing to allow it on to the network.
At home I have virtually the same set up except on AOL and have 5 PC all connected wirelessly both XP and Vista without problem.
The difference I can see, is that my router is secured using WEP and doesn't even have an option for WPA-PK.
Is this the problem?
Is my Laptop wireless card not compatible with WPA-PK?
If I change his to WEP will that solve the problem?
Any thoughts/help appreciated.

Mick - manually set up a wireless network
go to your wireless network properties (not sure how to in Vista!)
Add a network (use the SSID given on the router)
the network authentication should be set to wpa-psk
encryption is usually AES
the network key is the PSK that you need
save all that
once that is done you should now be on the list of connecting devices

Are you using the WPA-PK?
His has the key on the side of the router. If you reset the router it automatically reverts back to this key.
I had read that Sky have the routers modyfied...but thats tinernet for you
I can connect my SE C905 and Wii on mine at home.
Kieran, I will look at this next time. Thanks
