Default uTorrent hogging my system

Anyone got any optimal settings for uTorrent ? The latest version (1.81 I think ) Just hogs all the bandwidth. When I have finished the download its a case of restating the PC to get things back to normal , I did Google it and all I get is settings from a few years ago.

You can limit the upload and dload speeds in it. Why you would want to limit the dload speed would be a mystery though It's probably hogging your BW as the upload speed is set too high. Anyway change the speeds in it by right clicking on the numbers in the bottom right corner for D: Dloads or U: Uploads.

And you don't need to restart your PC, just stop (delete) the torrents you have completed from uploading if you want.

I have already limited the upload to speed , I have to restart the machine to get my BW back. The FAQ's on the uTorrent site dont seem to help , Im sure I never had this problem with the previous version.

Eh? when u say get my BW back, that must mean the BW is in use by something, right? Which is likely to be torrents you are uploading (seeding), it can't be anything else unless someone is hacking your net connection and using the BW!

You're right there's never been an issue with utorrent 'stealing' BW

Or there is something up with your network card possibly, which is curing itself on a reboot. Do some speed tests on the usual sites without using utorrent. Dload some files, use your net connection a bit and retest. See if your BW is affected.

It only happens when uTorrent is in use so I know that the program is causing the problem, I get my BW back when I restart the machine and uTorrent isn't running, I never have it running in the background ...

if your UPLOAD is being maxed - then this will kill your DOWNLOAD.

do a DSL speed test & limit your UPLOAD in utorrent to 2/3 of your max upload.

I also had this problem with uTorrent. I put it down to some kind of network card clash. It really does just hog everything.

Used on my laptop with same settings, no hogging.

You dont happen to have NOD32 running, do you ?

If so it sees utorrent as a browser and blocks it from also using iexplorer.

Go to nod 32 advanced setup and then WEB BROWSERS and put a red X in the utorrent box.

No more problems browsing in parallel with utorrent

Good stuff, that isn't nod's fault though! I use ffox as my browser and Thunderbird as my mail client, no issues. So I blame MS and their crappy apps

Only joshing. But whilst on the subject, I went to download Ubuntu, thinking that I'd have to used a torrent I installed transmission - great piece of software - went to the download page and Virgin have a direct link! Full speed download!! I removed Transmission straight away of course as I don't want to be tempted onto the Dark Side.
