Default Getting around a forum ban?

I have a mate of a mate who has a dog whos best friends mate got banned from a forum. (they were VERY fussy and no one on SN would last 3 days with their stupid strict rules......errr...he said!)

Now i assume they use the ISP to see who you are because (lets just say this happened to that mates mates dogs friends uncle) when he switch to his spare ISP he could re-post....until he got banned again.

So how would that person....that i dont even know....get to post?

Rhino

(just dawning on me that a forum might not be the best place to ask this!)

Bans are usually done on user name to start with. If the banned person uses another existing account, or registers a new one, then usually the admin would ban the IP address being used, as that would restrict any account from that IP address from being used. If they switch to another ISP, well, same thing can be applied.

As to how to get round it, ah, well, you could possibly use an annoymous proxy server, which would give some randomness to the IP address, however, I'm told they are not totally infallible though, but for casual use it might be ok.

Really does depend on the will of the user vs the will of the admin.

For every way that he found round the system, they would undoubtedly be able to ban him again and stop him posting. If he wants to be able to post without restriction, he should learn to abide by the rules

Not all computer stuff is techy you know

i was under the impression that your ip normally changes each time you log on

Hence it makes it hard to ban some using an ip

normally to get a fixed ip you have to pay extra

Just use a freebie dialup account, then your IP won't be the same as your broadband one.
Is it really worth the **** though, just to annoy an OCUK forum admin ?

What forum was it? I've heard the under 11 barbie collectors forum has better ban rules than SN. Webby here really does not like banning users, which explains all the trolls and other fools posting on here. Shame really.

lol...if this forum had their rules no one would be left!

the ban was a result of this:

someone mentioned drink drive issues, which was off topic......i said "dont debate with this person as they are an idiot and it will only fuel the debate" (their point was DD was ok)

i got a PN saying 1. dont go off topic and 2. dont insult people and they vaped my post...which meant the debate raged on with the retard.

so i pm'd back saying it was a foolish choice to vape my thread and allow the idiot to carry on posting....so they banned me!

As soon as I saw the original post I thought OcUK as well - must be the strictest rules of any BBS. But to be fair, the lowest ratio of tw*ts and trolls as well.

Sign up mutiple bbs accounts via your unfixed IP account. When they ban you, sorry, *cough* your mates mate, clear out your cookies log off and then back on again with a new account, new IP, etc.

Better to name and shame the forum, it's been a while since SN went on holiday - Remember the trip over to the audi TT owners forum?

Am i right in thinking only part of your IP addy changes when you reconnect?

If so, most forum software ive used allows you to ban however much of the IP address you like using wildcards for the end, for eg 123.456.***.*** sp anything starting 123.456 is banned.

Lookup hidemyip on google. Might be worth a try.
