Newzbin being sued

Newzbin being sued
It looks like some people are challenging the right that newsgroups are still alowed to have links to content on thier sites.
Newzbin has recently received two serious complaints regarding the indexing we perform, and raising doubts as to its legality.
It is likely that we will in the coming weeks be presented with a court case and have to defend our rights. We will be defending ourselves vigorously against both the complainants if necessary and we believe a court will agree with our view that linking to content on Usenet is indeed legal and our method of dealing with unlawful content is appropriate. We believe that, or we wouldn't still be here.
We are not in a position to disclose the identities of these two complainants (though I'm sure you can guess one of them) but we will report more as we can.
These cases are against us, not you. Having an account on Newzbin is not going to be a problem for you.
So, basically, if you start seeing press releases that legal action is commencing against us, don't be alarmed - we know, and indeed it's a good thing that we're getting these issues laid to rest.
Remember these things take time however, so it's unlikely we'll have further news for another few weeks - please don't hassle us for information, we will give you it when we have it.

Genuine question, what does Newzbin provide that you can't get elsewhere?
I used to use Newzbin about 3-4 years back, but haven't had the need with improvements in apps and other sites.

Dunk, I'm like you I've been using newzbin for over 4 years now.
I suppose I'm just used to it, I like the way everything is categorised, downloading NZB files etc
Is there a better alternative I've been missing?

I know what you mean, my first port of call always used to be Newzbin. I tend to use private tracker torrent sites to keep up with whats new now and when its released, but just don't use the torrents.
If its TV series' that I regulally grab then I just search from within alt.binZ and 99.9% of the time returns what I'm after.
If I'm really stuck or if the search engines that alt.binZ uses doesn't return what I want then I use nzb sites, but rarely need to rely on nzb's to be honest

Is there a way to do it without downloading headers and not using internet search engines?

Yes. Programs like alt.binZ (Grabit & newsleecher now too I understand) don't require you to download headers to obtain binary files. Just search, get a results list, choose a set to download, thats it.
