Default does anyone outsource their IMAP ?

We only have a small network of less than 20 users, 3 of which could really benefit from IMAP style email / contact list / calendar sharing.

I've checked exchange hosting companies who typically charge £10 per user per month for around 1GB of mailbox storage. Trouble is only 3 of our 20 users need IMAP facilitiles and as far as I'm aware, it's not possible to mix and match POP3 with IMAP email for one domain. Currently we pay £100+Vat per year for our 20 x pop3 accounts.

I could setup a LAN based IMAP server fairly inexpensively but they really need to connect from anywhere they're on the road and I don't want the hassle of connecting the IMAP server live to the web.

Are there any alternatives I should know about ?

Google Applications for Domains. Everything you've listed above is free, or you can pay if you like for slightly better service.

It works with POP or IMAP. So yes, works with pretty much anything.
