Default Force3D HD 4870 problems

Hi All,

I've started to get a problem with my Force3D HD 4870. All has been fine until recently.

I awake one morning to hear my the fan on the graphics card going full
speed. The monitor would not power up - yet the PC was still running
(network shares were accessible).

I shut down the PC via the soft off button - windows happily shut down playing the music as it does.

When I tried to reboot the PC, it came up with the VGA power wrong message, so unplugged the power to the VGA & reconnected - and it started fine.

There were two entries in the event log:

First one:
Event ID 49170
Category SDTV
Source ati2mtag
Description: MODE: GXO Execute BIOS Table Error

Second one:

Event ID 44043
Category GCO
Source ait2mtag
Description: GCO failed to execute AtomBios

Temps & voltages appear normal.

I have already sent back my PSU for testing and it was returned as working normally.

System:
8400 Duo
GA-P35C-DS3R
4gb Crucial Ballistix 6400
4870 512
1000W PSU
5 1tb disks

XP SP3 (32bit)
Cat 8.9

This has happened three times

I've googled it a bit, and according to some sites, errors involving atombios typically mean the card is on it's way out. If anyone else can shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Jason
