Default wireless connections

I have a BT home hub router and would like to know the best way to connect a desktop pc wire free to it.

I've not long bought a laptop and it pretty much connected itself, but my son has just got a pc in his bedroom and i don't want to be running cables if possible.

I've looked on ebay and there seems to be cards or dongles, which is best?

Is there a limit to the amount of computers that can be connected and will it slow the connection speed? I'm already on 1/2mb connection

Thanks

Kev

If via ethernet cable, 4 connections...

if via wireless, i think again 4 connections to the hub,

bear in mind when each is online, your 1/2 mb bandwith will be gone in an instant.

expect very slow surfing

bt hubs will support aprox eight wireless connections but less if you have a ethernet as well and may drop wireless if you connect to ethernet wilst on wirless dongles are ok if you have a spare usb port we have two laptops and one desktop all on wireless this works well for us

To answer the first question, you can use either a USB adaptor or a PCI one. It really won't make much difference, either will work fine.

If you were wanting to transfer large files over the network then I would recommend trying to wire it up, but for browsing wireless will be fine.

You say it pretty much connected itself before, I hope there was some kind of encryption set. (It asked for a password to connect).

thanks guys, we don't download or transfer stuff so wireless will be fine.

I was asked for a password before connecting so no probs there, thanks. I'm out in the sticks anyway so there's little chance of anyone stealing my connection.

thanks again

I found the PCI cards didnt work very well, so I changed to a USB dongle which is much better.

You can put the USB dongle on a long USB cable and position is for best rececption but the PCI cards are stuck in the bottom of the PC in an electromagnetically-noisy place.
