Disaster

Little lad is really upset as I can't get his Bob the Builder game to play.

I've got DirectX 7 loaded and today downloaded 8.0 and 8.1. I've also downloaded the updated driver for NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro but to no avail. It is reading the CD but really slowly - the title page takes half an hour to load.

Having gone into the diagnostics for DirectX and ran the tests, the page that should show a white box bouncing, shows a white box that doesn't move and the PC locks up.

Can any IT gurus help me before me little lad disowns his Dad.

Please can you put it in laymans terms as I'm a bit of a simpleton when it comes to computers.

check how you applied the driver for the tnt2 card, would recommend turning resolution to a standard pci gfx card and poor resolution (648x480) deleting old drivers then re-applying new ones.

I bought that game for my niece, and it wouldn't work on my computer, but works on her Mums fine, which is older than mine, very very strange

I would remove the graphics card from your hardware list,
restart the pc and have windows reinstall the display drivers.
Did you download the Detonator drivers from nvidia ?
What pc is it ?

With an older card like the one that you have, the newer Detonator drivers can be very problematic. You would be better off getting hold of a set of 12.40 or 12.90 drivers or even a set of 7.x dets for that machine. Example:

Results on Win98SE with dx8/8.1 and a TNT2 M64 Pro 32Mb:

Serious Sam 2 misbehaves and hangs like a goodun, with the 21-23 series of det's, but works fine on 12.x, I think, as I advised a freind to do this and recall him using the 12.90 drivers.
UT on the same machine. would get black blocks around the rockets when firing them and other random strange things, the above also did the trick here.

Cheers,

Nick
