I'm reinstalling windows on my friends laptop as she seems to have royally screwed it up.

I've managed to get a copy of xp but the product key provided doesn't work. Does anyone know where I can get one?

Did the copy of XP come with the PC from the manufacturer or was it purchased as a boxed product?

She got the laptop with xp on it from a manufacturer. No disc included. so I've downloaded a copy. Or is there another way?

There should be a product key on a sticker on the laptop - worth having a chat to the microsoft activation line if it is this product key which isn't working.

For the code on the sticker to work, you need a copy of XP provided by the supplier of the computer.

So if it were a Dell laptop with a Dell sticker, you would need an OEM copy of XP from Dell.
