Question No sound card on my dell???

Morning all,

Set up my new vostro, and think I may have forgotten to put a sound card in it It was a custom build for my requirements and have plugged speakers in and seem to get no response.

Not being knowledgeable on computers what can I do to get sound, can I fit an aftermarket sound card without opening up the base unit?

Thanks

quick check on the dell site, base model even comes with this so it should be on yours.(somewhere)

Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio HD
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD SW Edition

Check your volume control, bottom right of the screen, right click and see if its muted.
Otherwise you will have to go into your control panel and look under sounds.

Thanks for replies chaps,

Tony - I have a volume control bottom left that is muted but when I try and double click it it just wont do anything. If I right click I get options, 1 of them being 'open volume mixer' this though is shaded grey and won't open. If I hover over the icon is say 'no audio output device installed'.

Thanks Ray - I will try and did out my order and see if that is on there anywhere.

In device manager when I open Sound

It says

'Realtek High Definition Audio'

Does that help?

Go to the DELL website and click on Support (top right), then click on Drivers and Downloads. One of the options is to identify your PC via it's Service Tag (a seven character ID on a label stuck on your PC).

Enter your details and you can then browse all drivers etc. by operating system, and you should also be able to download the original inventory so you can see if it actually came with a sound card.

Even my ten year old PC is in there - very impressive

Thanks boomer

Did what you said and the dell site showed 3 drivers for sound. I tried to install all 3 and got the same message everytime basically saying there was nothing to install the drivers to.

I guess I have no sound card after all or a dodgy broken one.

Any others pointers people can offer?
