Default Good PVR / freeview box :D

Help please

I need a new PVR and freeview box as my trusty Thompson one is getting flakey

I remember a thread a couple of weeks ago but can't find it !!

I seem to recall the Humax was good but there was another brand also in the running LOL, I think it began with the letter "t"

Also how can I rescue all the Dr Who episodes from my old PVR

Thanks

Shaun

Topfield TF5800PVR

Welcome to Toppy.org.uk

Also worth looking at the Sony FV/HDD/DVD-R models in the RDR HXD*70 range. I have a 250gb 970 which is superb. The Topfield though can be connected to a PC via USB for archiving at full resolution (no compression) I believe.

Yup, shop around though. I got mine for £240, delivered, multi-region converted and with 2 free DVD's

Easy to use, faultless so far, very good PQ from FV, HDD and upscaled DVD via HDMI (720p to my screen, but can do 1080p).

Double check over on AV Forums, but I recall seeing quite a few complaints about Samsung recently.

I may be wrong, but Sony are rumored to have pulled a fast one with the 160gb model. I'm told it has the same 250gb HDD, but it is partitioned to 160gb and the firmware only sees the first partition. If you have the applications for managing the model of HDD you can free the full drive up. Also, there's a guy on AVF who's swapped out his HDD for a 1tb item and it works. There's a full tutorial on AVF
