Default Ubuntu Linux

Latest version has just been released - Hardy Heron.

BBC NEWS | Technology | Ubuntu 'reaping Linux dividend'

You can download it using Wubi so it loads next to windows on your hard drive without adding another partition.

Weird, I downloaded Ubuntu for the first time the day after the new version came out. I'm a Fedora man usually but like Ubuntu a lot. I fancy giving it a go on my Sunfire 280R

I downloaded it the other day. I installed it on a spare machine, but haven't fired it up since.

When I get round to it, the plan is to set the spare machine up as a server to cover a few things that might be nice to have the capability of.

Thanks, just installed it and it works well without driver weirdness on my Fujitsu laptop unlike earlier versions, screen and sound right from the start, wireless as easy to setup as Windows. Nice bundle of stuff they've fitted into a CD sized distro. Fonts in Firefox aren't as clear as they are in Windows though, will need to play with that.

Using it now as I write this, on version 8.04 (did an upgrade from the previous version) and so far impressed.

Very smooth in operation now and even things like Compiz work without any fuss.
