GTA IV - PS3 or 360 which one to go for?
I'll be buying GTA IV in the next month or so but I can't decide which format to buy on.
I'm not bothered about online play as I prefer to play in the city on my own and wont have time for online.
I have a new Panasonic Plasma screen arriving next Tuesday, and the 360 I have is the original one without HDMI.
So which will look the best 360 through component or PS3 through HDMI?
What are the pros/cons for each console format with regards to the game? Are they both identical with regards gameplay etc I may go online with it at some point in the future.

I can't comment on the graphics comparison unfortunately but I'd be interested to hear if GTA4 runs natively at 1080p. My own opinion is that HDMI is way ahead of component but there's little to choose between them on the 360.
I'll be getting the game on 360 for 3 reason's - My online friends list, the controller & achievement points () I doubt there's much difference between the 2 formats though. There's rumblings about the consoles getting exclusive DLC at a later date - each side has been making noises for a while but nothings concrete...

Either will be much of a muchness. Kotaku did a peice which they basically said there is absolutely bugger all to choose between them.
There is no way the DLC will remain exclusive.

MS spent $50 million on the DLC so i doubt it will go to Sony,
However the dlc is in 2 parts and doesn't arrive until August anyways.
Eitherway, if you own both consoles and aren't bothered about online then get which console you feel at comfort with, if you play online get which the majority of your friends have got.

The 360 only DLC will add about 10 hours of gameplay.
However, you'll have to pay for it, but it'll be exclusive to the xbox.
Whether Sony will commission their own exclusive content in retaliation...

Not bothered about DLC as I rarely get past 50% on games these days without the extra cost of more content
I didn't even unlock the third island in San Andreas
The TV is a Panasonic TH37PX80 so it only runs at 1080i or 720 IIRC, but I just want the clearest image I can get.
May go PS3 actually as I don't have many games for it, plus its so much quiter than the 360 for the late night sessions.

Just to hijack the thread slightly, is condemned 2 anygood ?, i've just completed condemned and was considering getting it. I've played the 360 demo, the new additional combat seems better.

I was reading stuff yesterday that said the single player is better( dunno why) and better visually on the PS3, but that you got extra content (I suppose that must be the DLC everyone is talking about) on 360.
So, if you only play with yourself, as it were, and have both, then PS3?
Geezer

There's a side by side comparison of the PS3 version against Xbox360 and they both look very similar.

1) A lot of people put off buying a PS3 until a recognised classic came to the platform. That day was today (launch day for GTA IV)
2) A lot of existing PS3 owners have been starved of decent titles to buy, so when a AAA titles comes along it gets snapped up in droves.
3) 2008 is the year PS3 overtakes Xbox360 in terms of units sold.

there are always threads about games not working right on 360 but there perfect on ps3 !!!!! sounds like ps3 fanboys to me and i have never had any trouble with the 360

also id like to see how they got there stats for the sales already.

theres are stats to prove all sorts depending on where you read them.
Xbox 360 group product manager Aaron Greenberg told Next-Gen in a phone interview Thursday following the release of March's NPD sales figures, "I think the battle for the core user is sort of over, if you will. We're heading now well beyond 20 million in console sales."
"I feel we've secured that core buyer, and that gives us quite a bit of an advantage versus PS3, which is late to the game and still at a price disadvantage relative to the Xbox."
Greenberg said Microsoft is forecasting Xbox 360's installed base in the US to be two- to three-times that of the PS3 by the end of 2008.
In addition, he said in the US and in EMEA territories, the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV has had more pre-orders than the PS3 version by a 2:1 margin. That game launches on April 29.

Who cares? The future of both machines is absolutely assured - 360 has sold 17.5 million, PS3 has sold 11.5 million, released a year later - They are on the same track and gamees are getting released for both.
Enjoy 'em.

Exactly, why do these threads always degenerate into a MS fanboy vs Sony fanboy?
Nobody really cares, I have both consoles so just want the best GTA4 experience.
Think I will be going PS3 for the HDMI connection to my new TV, thats if I can find a copy of the game anywhere.

I went for PS3 over 360 for no other reason than the controller (not that the DS3 is better, It just feels right for GTA, bit like pro evo does) And the fact that my oldest has it on PS3 so we cna play online.
If anyone wants a PS3 copy of the game and they are in the West Sussex area, I have a reservation code for Argos that I didn't use last night because I managed to get it from GameStation.

It certainly was last night for me - But I'm sure that will be a very temporary thing. To be fair, I just wanted to see what online was like rather than any particualr desire to play it online, the way I see it it will take you a good few hours to feel yor way around before you venture online.

Getting online with any game on the PS3 has been a nightmare for me, which is one of the main reasons I went for the 360 version of this. Graphically it looks identical to the PS3 version to me, I much prefer the 360 controller, and there is the possibility of extra content (even if I never get it)

To be fair I think any differences are going to be very very very minimal, any reports saying there are noticeable differences I would take with a pinch of salt. It's like CoD4 - There's nothing to choose between them.

The reviews I've read state that it's better visually on the PS3 but that fact is balance by the achievements and DLC of the 360 version.
I'll get the PS3 version eventually as not bothered about achievements or DLC and prefer the controller on PS3.
