Default stopping daughter using network

i have a wireless network ..

is there anyway i can tell if my partners daughter is surfing on her laptop when she is not suppose to be ..by using my laptop

i know i can check the modem for flashing lights ..
i know i can turn it off at the wall , but it becomes a problem at night when its bed time for her and i want to use my laptop,

is there a program that i can install on my laptop that tells me when or if she is on line and would be able to boot her off

also another question
can i use my laptop to check what websites she is visiting ...i not really able to get to her laptop as its passworded off and her dad brought her it

cheers phil

Just download a key logger and install it on her laptop. Something like this
Keylogger KGB. Download Free Invisible Keylogger Now!

Depending on your wireless router you should be able to setup some kind of scheduled access and turn logging on on the router

if she ever found out you put a keylogger on her laptop I guess you would open up a whole can of trust worms

I reckon the Netgear routers allow you to set up and limit access times. Also you can put in word blocks and specific site blocks in the set-up.

Yes I just checked on my Netgear DG834GT and you can schedule times and block sites and key words

As mentioned in a previous thread of mine, you can also download ICQ Snif and HTTP Sniffer that will log all the sites that she visits and also all her MSN/Yahoo/AIM conversations. This is done from another computer, so you do not need to load anything like a keylogger on hers.

As above
im sure u can set access levels on the router.

I had a key logger that was invisible, to anyone but the most pc savvy.

thats just retarded... an a major invasion of privacy for the poor girl !!

Several options

setup up MAC filtering and turn it on at certain times.

use the log function on the router.. most have them, clear and refresh a few times when you think shes on it.

Why are you all making the solutions far more complicated than they need to be. Just take the laptop away from her when she's not meant to use it (I'm guessing at night?). Easy, simple, free.

Failing that, many modems/routers have logs, check them.

Errr yeah

As above just use the router tools. Most will allow you to set a time frame. I had to do the same so it just kicked her off at 10:01pm and she couldnt get back on till 6:00am. Her face when I banned myspace was an absolute picture lol

Free and works without being intrusive.

What's the OS on the laptop. If it's Vista, you can just enable parental controls and you can control when she can logon to the machine. Means setting her up a non-admin account which is another bonus.

Start>Run then type cmd
then type ipconfig, note the default gateway. type this address into your internet browser and it should take you to the router software. You may have to put in admin username/password at this point.

Dont use a key logger, thats a shocking invasion of privacy IMO...and a bit creepy. As someone has suggested before, I would just take the laptop away at night, job done.

if you have the orange live box, do as above: start, run, type "cmd" type ipconfig

whatever comes up for default gateway, type that into you internet explorer broser, then you get the page for the orane live box. if it the box I have, (i think it is) click on security on the left hand side, then click assosiated devices, this should tell you what is wirelesly connected at the time.

ok thanks
done this and it shows 4 things
one being my laptop
two and three are the partners daughters laptop and desktop
four ... doesnt state a name , could this be my x box (but this is connected by hard wire)

dont think this tells me when she is using the net , just who has got permission to connect

Thumbs up

Go to B&Q

They have remote control plug sockets.

Costs about £30 for two sockets and one controller.

Easy to fit.

Set the controller up so you can turn unit (Kids Laptop) off

Glue the pc plug onto the remote control unit so she doesn't bypass it.

I have lights set up using the kit from B&Q so they come on in the AM to gently wake me up and also to kill power to my huge plasma to save a few £ each year on leccy bills.
