Default Cat 5 cable

I'm about to network my house.

I was given a reel of cable from a friend. But the cable was bought in 1999 and is cat 5, not cat 5e.

Should I use it? Is there much difference?

thanks

You'll be limited to 10/100mb networks - no gigabit. That's all. Personally, I ran Cat5e as I purchased 10/100/1000 switches and transfer fairly large files around
