Default Buying a font

I want to buy a font that i dont have as standard on word - easy to find it for sale but it seems they charge for the normal version, the bold, the italic, etc, etc

If i buy the normal version only does that mean i cant make it bold in the nomal way like i would with other fonts (unless i buy the bold version too)

If you buy a font, you usually get all variants of it - unless they specifically sell the bold & italic versions as an extra.

Not for web design is it?

You should still be able to use the Bold option within whatever package you're using to embolden the plain version of the typeface, I can't think of a reason why it would not let you do this.

There was one font, whose name eludes me at present (It was about 16 years ago when I used to be a typesetter), which looked horrific if you used the bold option from an application, rather than the true bold variant of the typeface. It was all down to the application not being able to kern and track the typeface properly, which is why there was a separate bold variant as the font designer had taken care of this.

It does sound somewhat odd that they would be selling the different variants of a font separately, smacks somewhat of money grabbing to me.

What you might what to do is to try using identifont or What The Font to see if there is a similar, possibly even free version of the font you are after, or perhaps even a similar one whose price includes all the variants.
