Default Help with XP permissions wanted

Hey guys,

Hope someone can shed some light on a problem ive got with permissions on an XP PC.

For some reason the main admin user does not have full admin permission, even simple things like bringing up Task Manager dont work.

I have created another user and all permissions are available on that user but still not on my original one.

I have tried adjusting the settings so that one user can see the others users files, etc, but that hasnt worked either.

Any thing else i could try, other than starting again with a re-install?

Someone suggested it may be a virus? How likely is this?

Thanks in advance

As far as I remember, even a basic user can open Task Manager. How are you trying to open Task Manager and what happens when you try?

Is the "problem user" in the administrators group?

Im starting to think more and more this is a virus.

AVG doesnt find anything and the updater wont update.

Cant get into task manager, even via windows/system32.

Some of the folders are renamed incorrectly, ie, outlook express opens my computer.

Am now running AVG in safe mode.

Has anyone heard of a similar sounding virus before?

OK, am getting there slowly but will defo need some help with this.

Ive managed to find that the registry for one user is completely fubar'd.

Am i able to copy registry settings for one user across to the other?

One users settings are working fine and as they should be, the user im having trouble with has so many settings wrong, i have no idea where to start.

Any help appreciated
