Problems with home wireless :(
Help please
I've just tried to set up my home wireless, it's a Netgear wireless router, a netgear USB reciever on the Pc and the built in wireless on the laptop....It's not gone well !!
The PC I'm typing on comes up with a message that there's another PC on the network with the same IP address
and..
The Laptop can "see" my network but says it has limited access and can't do anything like use the internet connection..
Any hints and tips ??
Cheers
Shaun

okay
No.1 Make sure all your computers, laptop and desktop are set to the same workgroup. (right, click my computer, properties, name, workgroup ..leave it something like workgroup etc)
No.2. Go into the network properties of the desktop of the usb network adaptor and check TCP/IP settings. These should be set to automatically, both IP and DNS. Do the same for the laptop, obviously choosing the wireless adaptor.
No.3 Check the router is all working and make a note of the wirless SSID (the name that is broadcast i.e NETGEAR )
No.4 Shut down the laptop.
No.5 Restart the PC and when it reboots, see if it can see the wireless network and get onto it. If all fine and there are no issues with connectivity, check the web access.
No.6 Boot up the laptop (this way the desktop will get the first allocated IP address from the DHCP pool) and repat the process for connectivity to the wireless network and web access.
see if that helps

Not sure what OS ur using but if you click on the properties for this connection you should be able to repair this connection, it normally resets the IP address etc, thats in xp anyway.

Now back on after tea..........just have to bath the kids LOL
Before I start is it possible to disable the wireless for the PC and go back to using the yellow cable and only use the wireless for the laptop ??
I have checked the network connections to the PC and there are two. one is the netgear and the other is via cable. I guess somehow I'm connected twice to the same network on the same PC !!
I'm running Vista Home premium on both the PC and the Laptop if that helps
Cheers
