Used PC system...what's it worth?
With the changeover to iMac tomorrow, I'm gonna flog my gaming rig, but zero idea as to 2nd hand value.
Spec as follows:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core 4800+
ASUS A8N32-SLI mobo
2048mb DDR400 PC3200 ram
2x300gb raided hard drives
Sony dual layer dvdrx+-
512mb nVIDIA GeFroce 7900 GTX
Creative labs soundblaster x-fi xtreme
Logitech cordless keyboard and mouse
33-in-one internal card reader
20 inch viewsonic vx2025wm widescreen LCD
Cost £2196 new less than 2 years ago.
Would come with xp pro, office etc. pre-installed.
Any thoughts on what I am likely to get?
cheers
Ed

This is one of the major problems with PC's
You will never sell it locally to a non computer bod, as we all know you can buy brand new PC's for 250 quid, hell even laptops are only 300 quid and cheaper in some cases
On saying that though I still see 3 year old laptops selling for 200-250 quid yet brand spanking new ones that ARE better are roughly the same price with warranty etc
I would probably estimate around 350 quid if you can find a buyer who knows what computers are and what they will be getting for their money

The other problem you have is although its a nice spec in its entirety it is old tech. Anyone buying new is really only going to go for, or should go for Intel Core2duo or Quadcore as that is the leading CPU tech. I would put it on ebay, there will be a much wider audience for it there, and you might get more for it than you expect.
Having said that I might be interested at the right price, if you want a quick sale?

Why not keep the monitor and get an adaptor lead (mini-dvi to VGA/DVI, depends what the monitor supports) and go for a dual monitor setup with the iMac. I understand you'd want to sell the whole thing as a kit, but if you're not going to get much for it, you could keep one of the good components for use with the new system.
If you do keep the system then you could also pull the drives from it, or maybe just one of them (might not be possible as they are raided) and put the drives into external enclosures and hook them up to the iMac for more storage space.

So I need one of these:
Apple Store - U.K. - Apple Mini DVI to DVI Adapter
and then the dual monitor support is already built into the iMac OS?

Yes, mini-dvi to DVI adapter will allow you to connect the monitor up and OS X does have dual monitor support, be it mirroring the same screen on both, or having an extended desktop, which is what I have on my iMac.
