Ive been reading these threads on the PS2 chip situation.
When you state mod chip do you mean chipping up to play copy games?? or is this a mod chip to improve speed/graffix/anything.
I am aware of only one type of chip for the PS2, which needs a RegionX DVD to boot it up, also heard that Regionx were asked by Sony to alter the make up of this disc to stop it being used for the wrong purposes, i.e copy games
No i dont work for any anti piracy group. just a curious PS2 gamer

There are, several modchips available for PS2, some offering more capabilities than others. The two top ones are:
"Messiah" & "NEO4"
A PS2 out of the box can only play original copies of games and DVDs for the region it was sold in. Eg. a UK PS2 can only play region 2 games and DVDs
The modchips defeat this 'protection' so that it releases your PS2 to play both original, and copies on CDRs & DVDRs from any region.
Each modchip must be soldered into your PS2, which invalidates your warranty - but a lot of people think its well worth it.

But, i dont play backups,only legal imports
But according to the latest courtcase,it sounds as if its illegal to play games not destined for your country,E.g USA,Jap etc on a pal console

Had mine done 10 months back
Tried to play a region 1 DVD the other day wouldnt have it!!
tried everything region x boot up took chip out of usb port, every variation known to man.
It was only a crap film which the missus wanted to watch anyway
