Question Should the e-mails on my Laptop

Match the e-mails on my DeskTop?

I could send a test e-mail from my Laptop to myself and it came back to the laptop.

Then I made the e-mail program on the laptop match the desktop program - now it arrives at the desktop, but doesn't come back to the laptop!

It's driving me bonkers - can anyone help? ..... when it works, would the laptop download all the e-mails from my desktop or just the new ones?

2 methods:

1. Convert your email account to a MAPI account so the server where they mail lives acts as the master and messages live there.

2. In your mail clients, set the option to leave mail on the server and set it for a period where you know you'll have logged into both machines (if you only log into one once a week, set for 9 days for example). This way, both machines get a chance to pick up before removal.

Thanks for your reply .... are you saying that it isn't a unique problem to me, but everyone has problems with this?

I just thought, maybe in my ignorance, that both e-mail accounts would sync and be the same .... but, of course, once the e-mail has arrived on the desktop it cannot also arrive on the laptop.

Yes, think of the server as the post office, once a machine has visited the post office to pick up the mail, it's no longer there unless the machine is explicitly told to leave it there for others to see.

I understand now, thanks for taking the time to explain

I couldn't see what I was doing wrong - because I wasn't doing anything wrong!
