Default iTunes Help

Hiya guys,

Need a bit of help with iTunes if possible.

I've just started using it and have downloaded a few tracks but can't export them to media player as it wont play the format and I can't change the format as the tracks are locked

Also, everytime I try to select 'backup to CD' it ejects a perfectly good blank disc and says to insert a blank one!! Grrr!!

Thanks in advance

Merv

If you downloaded the songs via the iTunes Music Store then they will be in AAC Protected format. You have a few options as to how to get them into another format. Something like hymn (google for it) would do the trick. The export to CD should work, however, you need to make sure that in iTunes' export preferences you have it set to Audio CD, otherwise it won't let you export the protected tracks.

You're not running the 64-bit version of XP are you? If so, then that might be the problem. Have a look here for more info.

As for Hymn, just noticed all links to the downloads have been taken down due to a Cease and Desist order from Apple. Seems some Requiem project may have upset them. Shame, as I don't see the problem in removing the DRM from files you have legally purchased so you can play them on any device you like, for example, I want to play my music via my xbox (modded with XBMC) and it won't handle AAC Protected, but it will handle regular AAC, thus I strip the DRM and play the files. I'm not planning on sharing them, so where is the harm?
