Anybody use demon internet ?
Tried too sign onto my AOL today and was greated by a please contact AOL customer services message. After an hour on the phone discussing Abduls pilgrimage too mecca and the chicken tikka masala he had for tea last night, i found out they suspended my account for sending unsolicited bulk junk mail. Which is particually weird as i never send emails from AOL.
So its time too ditch them.
Problem is im fairly limited too which ISPs are available in my area, no cable and sky who i would rather go with sadly isnt available around here.
I came across Demon but havnt heard of them or know anybody who uses them. Consumer Broadband
Any opinions, comments about Demon or recomendations for alternate ISPs would be aprechiated.

Demon Internet were the pioneers of consumer internet access in the UK with their 10'er a month deal. Long distance dial up on 2400 baud modems.
Long time since I used them though.

Been using Demon for several-plus years, the last couple on broadband.
What i like is the fact that you are a host on the Internet (normally a fixed IP address, so you can easily connect IN if you want) rather than hidden behind some proprietary IE interface/hardcoded router-box. No download limits, up to 8Mb/sec for 23 quid a month. They also do dial-up companion, so you can connect via a phone line from anywhere (holiday, business etc.) even if you are on broadband at home.
However, hosting and domains are very expensive (e.g. compared to 1&1).

Is it reliable Boomer ? ie any downtime ?. do you get dropped very often ?.
Also have you used the tech suport ? if so which country is that based in.
I think you most ave the Demon HomeOffice 8000 package with the static IP address & VPM access.
Dont think il have any use for that so im thinking about signing up for the Demon Home 8000 package tomorow. I think those seem too be the only differences.

ScoobyDriverWannabe,
Demon is much more reliable than other ISPs that i have used (e.g. through work) - only a few true unscheduled "downtimes" over several years. Line-drops are down to BT and not your ISP (unless you go LLU) - i actually get 4MB/sec but my in-house wiring is total pants!
Only used Tech Support once, and they were rubbish. Their proxy server(s) was down and i called to find out when it would be back. The knuckle-dragger on the phone kept telling me to reboot my PC to fix it - der
Still, i don't need molly-coddling, and can sort pretty much anything else out myself.
I am on HomeOffice because i moved from an existing dial-up account. If you just want broadband then Home 8000 should be fine.
Cheers,
mb

I've been with Demon for more years than I care to remember, never had any problems with them. Speed and reliability are OK. Fixed IP address is great especially if (like me) you want to host your own website or mail server.
