Most disks attached to the PC mags have AVG free in amongst all the other stuff on them. Ive got about 4 here chucked at the side of my PC and its on them all. You could try that route, see if it will load from a disk.
or try downloading from a different place.
try here
I reckon they've done/doing away with the Grisoft name and just calling it AVG now.
BTW you haven't got any Internet security already on, free trial perhaps, that may be blocking it?
Ive just took it off my PC and put Kaspersky on (just so I can visit the more entertaining sites).

I use Windows Live OneCare (yeah, I know) works a treat and integrates perfectly with Vista You have licence to install on 3 PC's all of which can be monitored from your PC as long as they're on the internet. I get notifications of whether they're up to date with Windows updates or any other issues, very handy. Can't fault it.

Nod32 every time. It's quick, reliable, and doesn't hog system resources like AVG, Norton etc. Works very well on Vista as well (32 and 64bit).
AVG is NOT a good antivirus to install on a PC. It misses a lot of stuff. Even the latest version is bad. I just had to recover 2 pcs with it installed, and it had let through a lot of nasty stuff on both machines.

Your comment was that Vista didn't need virus protection.
The fact is that Vista is just as prone to viruses as XP was, so an antivirus program is a very good idea. In your case, I doubt you would have caught anything on XP either if you are being that careful.
Apparently it doesn't nearly a year without Anti virus and I decided to see if I'd collected anything
