Default Please help me speed up my PC....

I've got a pretty crap PC approx 3 years old from Tesco so low spec rubbish in other words. The past 6 months have been murder with the computer running soooooo slow and jamming up daily. I've defragged it and removed as much unwanted junk off it as possible but still no joy.

Its driving me crazy as I cant go to a web page without it taking an eternity to appear.

I was thinking of completely formatting my PC back to factory spec!

The only files I'm scared of losing are,

My photo's on Kodak Easyshare,
My camcorder backup files
My itunes.

I think everything else can be deleted!!

My question is, how can I save these 3 above safely ready to reinstall when formatted?

Are there any easier ways to speed my PC up?

Any advice I would be hugely grateful!!

Thanks

i use a second hard drive.just save the files where your music, photos and camcorder backups are.in my opinion get rid of Kodak Easyshare software i had nothing but hassle with it.the software use to freeze up then make my pc freeze all together.

Does that hard drive just plug in USB?

What about all my Itunes, can I save that on there too?

You can get external hard drives that are Firewire/usb esata, its your choice. If you have usb then thats good, get a usb external hard drive just plug into your pc switch on and thats it. If you look in windows explorer you will see the drive-just copy the files you want and drop/paste them in the external drive. If you have a folder full of files just right click on the file and copy, then paste to the external drive.

Slow webpage loading can be adaware. If you've not got any specific spyware protection - not internet security - then it may be worth downloading adaware 2007 and running a scan see if that works.

PC World usb hard drive here just for an example 500gb

Click here Ad-aware to download adaware free.

HTH

Mick

Thanks Mick. I do have ad aware on my PC. Also using AVG. If I format my PC are they both free downloads?

P.S Do you think I'll have any problems transferring my I Tunes onto a hard drive then back onto my PC?

yes mate find where itunes stores your tunes it should be on your c drive somewhere if you put it on in its default place.something like C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music.have the second hard drive open. and just copy the file and drop the file on to the hard drive.the hard drive is a normal one that you would have in your pc.but i've got it in a caddy which plugs in with a usb

Cheers lads you've been very helpful.

Final question, I've estimated 30 Gb would easily cover what I needed to save. Would this HDD do the trick?

30GB 2.5" USB 2.0 EXTERNAL POCKET SLIM HARD DRIVE on eBay, also Hard Drives, Drives HDD CD DVD, Laptop Accessories, Computing (end time 21-Feb-08 16:37:56 GMT)

Yes its usb 2 and powered of your usb port. Not the fastest but looking at his feedback you could get one for about £25.
