You need something to send a wireless signal

and something to receive the signal.

I.E a Router connection to your internet connection.

Wireless dongle for the PC.

Google will have a step by step for every possible router make out there !!

oh right ok, So you're not using wireless!

You need to go into your network connections folder and make sure the one that is reporting a lack of cable is actually the NIC you are using.

If it is, you have one of three issues.

1. Broken NIC
2. Damaged RJ45 cable
3. Screwy router

well when i am setting the router up, the power light, LAN light and the internet light are all green (they are on). After it restarts the network a message comes up saying that there is no internet connection. It is then telling me to check that the all cables are in properly, which they obviously are! It wont let me go any further from here.

Also mate, i dont think it is the NIC card cos when i plug the router into the mains, it says local area connection 3 connected and internet and LAN lights come on. All i have to do is get connected to the net!! Dont think its the cable either as i have about 3 of them. How will i know if the router is knackered?? Cheers

Right !

Here we go !

Make life easy for me and you.

Turn off PC, turn off Router and turn off modem..

Plugs off at wall !!

Connect Modem to router via the socket that's set off to the other four... should say Internet/Modem or something like that next to it.

So modem is connected to Router.

Now pick any of the other 4 and plug into PC.

Very Important:

Turn modem on..

Wait for cable light or online light depending on modem to go solid.

Now turn on Router !

and now PC.

Test internet after letting PC fully boot.

If not working..

Click start

Run and type CMD

In the command prompt that comes up

type IP config and see what your IP starts with..

It should be 192

If it is type ping 192.168.100.1 and see if you get a reply, if you do its a VM network issue and we need to look into this further...

If you dont try ping and the IP that came up assuming its a 192, if its a 169 we have a list of things to try !!

Let me know

I'm going to bed in a bit, in work very early..

If you are still having issues, PM me with your Modem MAC, account number, or phone number and I'll have a look.
