Microsoft Network Adapter

Microsoft Network Adapter
I've done a search online to try to fix my current problem but to no avail. I've also listed this snag on a PC forum but I know scoobynet has plenty of PC / IT experts and thought it would be worth a punt on here as well.
I'm in the process of switching my ISP from Pipex to Tiscali. I'm almost there but for some reason I have problems with the Microsoft Loopback Adapter. I've looked at my Network Connections and my Microsoft Loopback Adapter is displaying the message "Limited or no connectivity" which it never showed with Pipex. I've tried reinstalling it as per the numerous online instructions but to no avail.
Does anybody know how I can get it working again. I've set up the Tiscali connection manually and I'm using a Netgear WiFi router with XP Pro.
Any help appreciated,
Craig.

Scooby Regular
have you tried renewing the IP. There is a chance you could be on the wrong range
EG 192.168.0.1 for old settings, 192.168.1.1 for new settings. Go to CMD prompt, ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew should renew it for you providing your router is set up for DHCP.

scoobz72,
I tried inputting the above at the CMD prompt but got the following...
"Error: unrecognized or incomplete command line"
Can you confirm that your line above should be inputted verbatim as below..
ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew
Cheers,
Craig.

How come the Loopback Adapter is installed?
AFAIK, that's just there for testing when you don't have a proper network card installed.
If you're using cabled network, do you have a connection called Local Area Connection (or very similar) in your Network Connections section?

Should I not worry about the Microsoft Loopback Adapter then?

Loopback adapter - its not needed. Its only needed on a system without a network card in order to get the protocol running and various services activated.

SO just to confirm - your internet connection on your PC is fine? (I know you said you had email issues, but that's not important here)
Its just this loopback adapter that's reporting an problem ? If so, just delete it. Goto your control panel > network connections > local area connection > properties and remove it from the list.

Thanks for the replies, my PC is now sorted in all areas. The whole Loopback adapter was a red herring as it is still only has got limited connectivity. I don't know why it was different with Pipex but it all works fine now.
Thanks,
Craig.
