red ring of death mate....

happened to many on here.

loads of articles on it.

just have to sit it out (or do what a lot of people do which is buy an elite, and then sell their 360 when returned )

It doesn't help. My downstairs elite has just died and it's only a few weeks old. It's one of the "new improved" ones as well...

I got it from Gameplay, and their support is as useful as a chocolate teapot. They will basically only replace it if Microsoft refuse to repair / replace the console. So I've got to contact MS and endure another 2 hour phone call and 3-4 week wait to get it fixed.

Really bad service from Gameplay, and I for one will never use the company again (despite have spent thousands with them over the years).

Going on holiday in a couple of weeks, so I'm going to leave calling the MS Indian call center till I get back. Luckily I've got a 2nd elite, and my old premium arrived back from the MS repair center today, so I can still do some gaming. Getting seriously fed up now. This is now the 9th 360 I've had go wrong!!!

My launch day console died last week.
I've only just round to phoning MS about it. Now I'm struggling to find a box suitable to bloody return it in.

Try taking everything apart and then giving the ventilation holes a good suck and clean out with a vacuum cleaner and be sure to include your power-brick (it has some vent holes too that become clogged with dust on mine).

Sounds like overheating so it may be worth a try....

Ignore them all - There is one solution - Box it up and send it back to MS

Depends if its a general hardware failure or simple overheating due to inadequate ventilation. I know two people who solved a similar issue by simple cleaning and better ventilation.

So it might be worth a try before having to box it up and send it off.

Yes mate, it started locking up in Forza 2 when that was released.
Had one incident of RROD, then they released a update for Forza and it cleared up and had worked faultlessly until I moved it from the study to the living room at Xmas. It really didn't apprieciate that and has RROD since.

Thankfully I bought COD4 on the PC early Jan so haven't been using it much and it'll keep me going till the 360 comes back (just found a box ).

Needs to be back for the 29th April though. GTA IV gets released that day

i know this sounds daft but im trying the towel fix...saw a good video of a guy on youtube doing it...bit dangerous i know but it seemed to work for him and there are loads of others on there that have done it...

from what i understand from having a look around is the problems caused initially by overheating and the motherboard becoming bent and seperating from the DCU whatever that is...the towel fix is supposed to reset the chips or something like that but its supposed to be a fix for the general hardware failure, but only a short term fix, it still has to go to ms for repair...

ill give anything a try once...

Why call the call center? You can arrange a pick up online in a couple of clicks.

Ive read a few posts about the freezing problem, it seems some guys have found it to be the power brick and hanging it up off the floor with string or put an open cardboard box under it so air can get all the way round it stops it doing it, one guy also had the rod every ten min and he did this and 1 week later xbox is still runing 100%.

9th blimey I thought I was bad with 7 dead in 14 months. Getting my new one delivered today from MS as an old mate of mine heads up the Xbox divsion.

I'd read online that many of the Elites did not have the heatsink modification but all the units being repaired now have this retro fitted. Not sure how true this is.

Possibly, but it's not a RROD failure this time. Instead I'm getting a E67 (hard drive error) and 1 red light when I turn it on (even when there's no hd attached). Plus the DVD drive has started making a very loud "grinding" noise...

Got mine back yesterday and it is noticably louder than before. DVD drive is making some high pitched noise that gently ocilates up and down which is going to do my head in before too long.

Picked up by UPS on the 16th and returned on the 29th. Mate of mine i work with got his back in 3 days after collection, collected last Mon and redelivered on the following Wed

Got my premium back from MS on Monday, (took about 2.5 weeks). It seems to work ok except for the fact that it now rattles when you move it (something is loose inside!!)...

I tried the towel trick on mine last night, completely killed it
It used to boot up occasionally, before RROD, after the towel trick it just RROD all the time.
All boxed up ready for UPS now.
