pc to xbox connectivity prob
hi guys
one for the network gurus!
I'm trying to connect my brothers xbox 360 and pc so he can stream media from the xbox
the pc is in an upstairs bedroom connecting wirelessly to a netopia 2247 gateway that was supplied by the isp provider
signal strength is excellent , connecting at 54 mbps . no probs there.
Manually set ip addy to 192.168.1.1 , subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.254 , DNS are correct for ISP (eircom)
wep security , windows firewalled. can connect fine to internet ,no problems there
xbox is connect via wired connection to ethernet port on gateway
ip addy 192.168.1.2 , subnet 255.255.255.0
Can connect fine to xbox live . passes all xbox live tests no probs
windows media player 11 is installed , netopia firewall is set to low.
no matter what I do the cannot see each other , I've tried turning firewalls and security off but no difference.
any ideas ??

I had a similar prob, i could connect to live ok, but the xbox would not see the pc at all.
Couple of things to try.
Disable all firewalls on your pc (xp & or zonealarm etc.)
on the xbox reset networks to defaults, and then run the connectivity test. it should find your router
if it asks for a password enter it.
it should then see your router/ pc
if not,
it looks like its your router
believe me i had cart loads of trouble with the fabled "netgear" stuff

Hi mart
Thx for the reply
I'll try that tomorrow , someone did mention to me the router that is supplied is fairly crap
Do you think replacing it with another might work ?
