I use it to talk to my relatives in the USA and my mate in Cyprus.
I think it's quite good but I have found it to be far better quality of sound and vision now I've changed my PC for a Mac.

I'm not sure but I think the quality depends on your computer.

considering you can download it for free, then it's got to be worth a try.

I use it all the time. Call the USA every day with it (for work).

Skype to Skype is free (and even has conferencing abilities), and you can dial USA toll free numbers for free as well. Sometimes the sound quality drops a little (depends on network traffic and the speed of your internet connection), but most of the time it's as good as the normal phone line.

Yep dead easy, just plug it in! You can actually download something called skypemate which lets you use the number pad on the voip phone as well, I use a tesco phone with skype and it works a treat.

Perfect mate all downloaded and ready to use, okay have the skype page in front off me where you enter the phone number you wish to dial which is fine but just wonder how I get the page where I can enter another skype users username to enable me to contact that particular person ?? I take it that is what info I would have to enter to contact that particular person ie. there username as opposed to there email addy or whatever ??

how do the price off uk daytime / evening calls compare to say BT much cheaper ??

again sorry to the original poster if I have hijacked your thread ??!! will let you know how I get on but all looks okay up till now !!!

Read all the small print, the quality is NOT as good as a landline or mobile network that use digital exchanges and decent cables, but for IP-IP calls its ok.
You will find that calling mobiles/landlines will end up meaning your billed for use, and you may also find that its more expensive than using a landline/mobile too!

It can also be better quality than a landline call. On a few occaisions I've given up on a landline call, switched to Skype and the quality has been better. I've also known it happen the other way around of course

That depends on your landline, and what you are using it for. Skype to Skype calls are free, calls to a UK landline are charged at 1.4p a minute, and calls abroad can be much cheaper (USA 0800 numbers are free for example).

Call rates can be found here...

Local, long distance and international calls at cheap rates

Not bad pricing there Iain (though working in the industry, VoIP really sucks compared to other protocols/comms) though you may find that skype are now starting being charged by mobile operators for use of network though land line operators dont really suffer as much as its fixed and you pay for your broadband links in downloads
