Default home media info wanted

what do i need basically? we have just over 200 movies on dvd and at the minute they take up quite a large space in the living room in their cabinate. what i want to do is put them all on to something so we can get some space back, the thing is i don't want 200 movies sat on the computer as they would probably fill it up! so is there a box out there that i can copy them all to without having to put them on the pc first and then can connect the box to the tv and via a menu just select what film i want to watch?

Most things on this page:

KJ Global Ltd. Multi-Media Players

look for iso or vob playback.
You'll need some time to rip and a tool to decrypt but once done, it's great. I did the same about a year ago with an Mvix 760 but I'm not sure it would take the Tb of disk you're looking at, it might have a 500 gig limit. It does stream as well though.

You could save a fortune and buy POS (plain old storage) for them Perhaps something from these guys?

Discgear

I'm sure you can find them cheaper if you looked

Buy a NAS and put all your films/pics/music onto that, then access that from a media player in your lounge (wireless).

I'm looking at doing this at the minute.

Mvix 760 I currently have has NAS and streaming functionality, no need to buy a NAS and a player. (wired or wireless)

Depends what you need I suppose, I want audio players to link to the NAS from separate rooms, but I will look at the Mvix anyway

Yeah, might struggle with that as it's actually NDAS and needs a client but there are new players coming along that support ftp and samba shares which would be easier to connect to. Loads of options around depending what you actually want/need.

Too many options for home media now - my head is fried at the minute with how many options there are - Squeezebox, Philips, Sonos, Popcorn, NAS, DAS the list goes on.

We should all just stick to stereos and CD's

NAS + clients is the most flexible, with Homeplug or Wired ethernet the most reliable...

Homeplug of 85 or less won't stream HD, they don't tell you about the huge overhead on them and that there's not much left for data. I got faster real speed with 54g than 85 homeplug.
