Default PS3, Nintendo wii or Xbox 360?

What would you buy given the choice now and why?

I was playing old retro games on a friends Wii the other night (sega streets of rage, super streetfighter) etc.

I had forgotten just how good they were.

What should i buy and why?

Depends what you want it for. I've got all three and they each have their merits.

Personally I'd get a PS3 if I could only have one under the TV. It does the casual thing with Singstar, eyetoy etc and also appeals to the traditional gamer in terms of racing, shooting, killing etc.

Most people would recommend 360 as it's has the widest range of games. However they are all in a handful of genres so I couldn't recommend it if you are only getting one console.

I'd only get a Wii if you're prepared to wait a long time between decent games.

Wii is good but games are either really good or shockingly bad. Had one for a bit but sold it.

I was given a RROD 360 after christmas for free and its on its way back from Microsoft having been repaired or replaced (not sure till it arrives but hoping its been replaced) Looking forward to streaming AVIs to in the bedroom

As for PS3 - no idea.

Personally I'm a PC man so I doubt I'll keep the 260 long anyway.

PS3 if you like the idea of HD movies.
X360 if you're a dedicated gamer and like online play.
Wii if you not so serious about games and would play with mates/parties.

edit: ah crap, two posts above almost identical. Proves it must be right. )

Frayz

We have all three at home

1. PS3 is mine and I use mainly for Blue Ray I have a few Motor Games and they are pretty cool although I am not a gamer by any means
Its all covered Online gaming NO CHARGE, Wireless NO CHARGE, Cool looking kit IMHO

2. XBOX is Robbies and he is on it when ever we let him Plus side the games seem more available down side No HDD, No Wireless, No Online Gaming WITHOUT PAYING EXTRA Of course most of the ESC favour this consol except me and Fozz

3. Wii is the Families GREAT FUN and we enjoy the games as a family ok not up to the graphics of the above but still the most used Game in the Hse

Feel free to pop round if you want mate

It's threads like these which cause arguments

It does have an HDD depending on the model you buy

Had all 3, sold the Wii, use the PS3 for Blue-Ray and the 360 for gaming. Like Live even though you pay for it and prefer the 360's controllers over the PS's..

Just IMO of course

The premium 360 comes with a 20 GB HDD, the core system doesn't, or are you confusing HDD with HD-DVD ? All this talk of blu-ray...

Now to really confuse you :

If you get a 360 try to get one that has the new falcon CPU as these run cooler and are supposed to prevent the RROD.

Look at the power consumption rating on the cardboard box the console comes in (on a little white sticker). If it's 200 W then its the old cpu, 175 W then its the newer one.

Nope, the HD comes with all models except the arcade version. With the pro/premium console you get a 20GB drive, and with the elite you get a 120GB drive.

You can upgrade the 20GB to 120GB, or just buy a 20GB if you have an old core/arcade pack.

Get a PS3 based on the fact it plays blu-ray movies. Watch the 1 free bluray movie you get with it (usual something **** like click or spiderman 3). Play the free game title you get with it for around 30mins (this is the average time it takes you to realise that although the GFX look nice the actual game plays like ****). Don't buy any movies because they cost £25+ each. Don't buy any games as there aren't any decent titles worth the £45-50 asking price. Leave PS3 collecting dust for months and wish you bought an Xbox360. Chin up mate there are plenty of other people out there like you.

(I have all 3)

A playstation 3, an xbox 360 and a Wii are all playing in the playground.

A genie appears from the magic slide of doom, and says "whoever slides down this chute will be turned into whatever they ask for" (cue deadly music)

So one by one the consoles go on the slide.

Playstation 3 climbs to the top, starts to slide..."Weeeeeeee" and gets turned into a certain next generation nintendo console.

xbox 360 climbs to the top, starts to slide..."Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" same thing happens!

Nintendo Wii climbs to the top, starts to slide, realises his pants are caught at the top and gets a gigantic wedgie. "Oh Sh*t" he cries - and turns into a playstation3.

I'd buy one from a shop (as oppossed to online), so you can check the box before purchase, as stated above try to get one which states 175w and not 220w as it runs cooler.

The 360 is the best all-rounder i would say & iv never had a problem with mine.

However iv barely played it since i got the wii, which says a lot..

Went round my mates the other night to check out his new ps3(never seen one before) & i was very dissapointed. Games seemed to take ages to load, graphics are no better than a 360 & most importantly it seemed to suffer from "slow down" when there was a lot goin on.

I would honestly say get the 360 AND the wii

True, but I think the 360 version is the best (having played all 3). The PC version is nice but requires a fairly hefty rig to get the best out of it, and I did notice some nasty slowdown on the PS3 version.

Quick Reply: PS3, Nintendo wii or Xbox 360?
