Anyone know if the Spannish telephone system is the same as the uk ?
I plan to take a UK PC there. Will I need to purchase a new modem or will my existing UK one work.

Also any recommendations for a Spannish ISP similar to freeserve would be could.

I'm pretty sure a modem would work. We've got a customer in London who has a single guy who works out in Spain as a field rep. IIRC, we sourced his notebook in the UK and sent it over.

http://www.freedomlist.com/find.php3?country=138&st=1 lists a few ISPs. Can't recommend any though, I think we put the guy on CompuServe for European roaming.

I could do with some Spanish lessons too. My Mum has bought a house out there and plans to live there for half the year.

I think a cheap lap-top is the best option for her but I would have to set it all up with servers etc.

Yes UK modems do work in Spain, as my Laptop will testify. IIRC you just have to have an RJ11 -> RJ11 cable to plug into the socket.

ISP wise we use Compuserve for when we are 'roaming' although i take the attitude that i dont want that installed on my Laptop and dial a UK ISP still! Hey its all on my expenses at the end of the day i dont lose out!

Thanks for the replies guys. I take it RJ11 is the small connector plugged in the back of a standard external modem.
